A fairy tale from the book Lost Spring by illustrator Saki Matsumoto and screenwriter Anna Bobreková. The adaptation for cardboard puppet theater was created by the DidaDiv team in collaboration with the authors.
The main characters of the Lost Spring story are Miketsu and Inari, two fox deities who came from Japan to the Czech Republic during the Masopust festival. During their search for a new home, they encounter the Vodník, the Will-o'-the-Wisp, the Wood Spirit, and the fairy youth Narcissus.
In the story "The Vodník," the Vodník sits by a quiet pond, deeply pondering how to enrich his collection of souls. His melodic flute song, full of magic and mystery, attracts the Owl Boy and enchants his heart. The Vodník then pulls him into the depths of the pond and transforms him into a fish, lost in the dark waters. Inari and Miketsu, determined and brave, decide to rescue the Owl Boy and restore his true form.
All the characters, beings, and heroes can be recognized from Czech and Japanese mythology. Although human imagination created them hundreds of years ago, they still hold great significance today. In the stories of Lost Spring, yōkai, ghosts, and supernatural beings from Japanese mythology play an important role. Yōkai can be perceived as either negative or positive, depending on the traits attributed to them by people.
How does this set work?
This set serves as an extension of the empty DidaDiv Classic set. Thanks to the pre-drawn puppets, backgrounds, and developed script, you can easily complete and perform your story. Finally, you can upload it to the DidaDiv channel and share it with your friends through the web application at https://www.didadiv.cz/upload.
The included stickers are applied to blank cardboard to create 6 double-sided puppets and 2 backdrops. Four printed worksheets guide you through the four acts of the Vodník story, with each act customizable to your liking. Each worksheet contains questions related to the portrayal and plot of the story.
To perform any story from Lost Spring, you will need a stage, two blank backdrops, a piece of clean cardboard, and skewers. You can purchase a ready-made set on our e-shop at https://www.didadiv.cz/buy or create individual parts from packaging cardboard, for example, following the "DidaDiv DIY" instructions on the DidaDiv YouTube channel.
